About

Norway Baptist Church

“Norway Baptist Church is an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church that holds firm to the King James Bible and the Old Path ways. We are Independent in that we are not under any other governing body such as a denomination, convention etc. Fundamental simply means that we hold to the Fundamentals of the faith, keeping that form of doctrine which Christ and the Apostles taught. We are also a Church that cares for the entire individual, both physically and spiritually. We strive to place Christ first in all matters and areas of life and hold His precious Word as our final authority in faith, practice and life.”

Pastor Adam Thacker

Pastor Adam Thacker answered the call of God to come and take the pastorate here at N.B.C. in April of 2014. Pastor Adam grew up near Lenoir, North Carolina. He was raised in Church most of his life but it wasn’t until April 1998 that he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour.

Pastor Adam spent six years in the North Carolina Army National Guard and served one year in Afghanistan. While on leave from Afghanistan the Lord began to work in Pastor Adam’s life and in Oct. 2010 called him to preach. That January he began his theology studies at Slidell Baptist Seminary of Slidell, Louisiana where he received his Associates of Theology.

It was six months after the Lord called Pastor Adam to preach that he began dealing with him and his wife Autum about the state of Maine. They both took two survey trips to the state of Maine before God settled it in their hearts to come and take the pastorate of Norway Baptist Church.

Pastor Adam is greatly aided in the ministry by his faithful wife Autum who has a great impact upon the youth and the ladies of N.B.C. , Mrs. Autum also serves as our Church Secretary. Mrs. Autum received the Lord Jesus Christ in September of 2001 and was married to Pastor Adam in January 2007.

“My greatest asset in this service for my Saviour apart from Him, His Holy Spirit, and His precious Word is God’s gift to me, my wife.” -Pastor Adam

Our History

Norway Baptist Church was originally founded in 1806 by 10 believers from the Baptist Church in South Paris, Maine. The Church was given a piece of property near where the “Ginger Bread” house currently sets (north of town). William Parson became the first deacon and Bro. John Wogg was called to be their first Pastor.

Over the Church’s 200 plus year history, it has seen God bless in so many ways. One of which was a revival in 1840 under the Pastorate of Reuben Milner (who also to date holds the longest term of the many Pastors N.B.C. has seen). Another great blessing came in 1886 (eight years before the great fire) with a new and then modern Church building located on present-day Cottage Street, where the Church still meets today.

In a book entitled “The History of Norway” by William B. Lapham, Mr. Lapham makes a statement about the Baptist Church in Norway on pg. 199 in which he states “There is every prospect that the Baptist Church of Norway will become extinct.” Today the Baptist Church of Norway is still going strong for the Lord Jesus Christ and will by God grace continue because “if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.” Acts 5:39.
